Ron Gutman's Health Tap Seeks to be the First Global Mobile Health Brand
A Series of Forbes Insights Profiles of Thought Leaders changing the Business Landscape: Ron Gutman, Founder and CEO, Healthtap…
“My vision is to give people immediate gratification in healthcare,” says Ron Gutman the high-energy and affable founder and CEO of HealthTap, a mobile health platform that connects customers with trusted health information and doctors in near real-time at any given time of day or day of the week from a network of over 50,000 U.S.-licensed doctors. “We call people ‘patients’ but they are anything but patient when they are in pain or desperate to talk to a doctor in the middle of the night,” continues Gutman. In creating a customer–focused health information service, Gutman sees the opportunity to build the world’s first global mobile health brand.
There is nothing small about Ron’s ambitions or business opportunity: $3 trillion of our GDP goes to healthcare, $500 billion of that alone is spent on doctor’s visits, of which 25 percent are just informational in nature. HealthTap looks to disrupt the model and bring high-quality information directly to the customer, instantly through their mobile devices for free or very modest costs. Just imagine a worried mother with a sick baby being able to talk to a doctor in the middle of the night, holding the baby in one arm and her smartphone in the other. Certainly it won’t take the place of a doctor’s visit, but it goes a long way towards allaying fear and anxiety. The company just released its new Talk to Docs app that allows voice activation without the need to type into the app.
